ABOUT MATING
Adventures in Mating is a unique interactive experience in which the audience has a direct impact on the course of the show without ever leaving the safety and comfort of their seats. Inspired by Choose Your Own Adventure novels, the course of this scripted show is determined by audience choices. When the dysfunctional couple can't make simple decisions such as red or white wine, slap or kiss, leave or stay--the audience votes and the story unfolds in vastly different but equally absurd directions. There are currently over 40 different scenes written for the show, and only 5 to 7 are performed each night. With multiple storylines, endings, and ever-changing scene options--it's rarely the same show twice.
Mating was the #3 best selling show of the 2005 MN Fringe Festival and had a sold-out remount the same year at the Bryant Lake Bowl. It is now, literally, an international sensation!
An ongoing production ofMating plays every Thursday night in New York.
Theater Scmheater in Seattle is producing Mating in July and August of 2007.
In the fall of 2006, the show was produced in England and will start a tour of the UK next spring as well as a possible run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
In late 2007 and early 2008 the first translated version of Adventures in Mating will be performed at Theatre 199 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Also, a short essay on the modular nature of the show is featured in the recently published MIT Press volume, Second Person: Role-Playing and Story in Games and Playable Media.
Adventures in Mating is written by Joseph Scrimshaw, and co-produced by Joseph and his wife, Sara Scrimshaw, who holds a Master's Degree in Arts Management from City University in London, UK. The show currently stars Jim Robinson, Alayne Hopkins, and Joseph Scrimshaw with understudies Shanan Wexler, Joe Weiner, and Tim Uren making special appearances.
